Chongqing, abbreviated as Yu or Ba, is the only municipality directly under the Central Government in the central and western regions of the People's Republic of China. It is a national central city, a megacity, and an international metropolis, serving as the economic, financial, scientific and technological innovation, shipping, and commercial logistics hub of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. In 2018, the city's permanent resident population was 31.0179 million, and its regional GDP reached 2.036319 trillion yuan. Chongqing is known as the Capital of Chinese Hot Pot, a Famous Convention and Exhibition City in China, and the World Capital of Hot Springs.
Chongqing is a comprehensive transportation hub in the southwest region of China, connecting the east and west, as well as the north and south. Its Jiangbei International Airport is one of the "Top Ten" airports in mainland China, and Guoyuan Port serves as the starting point of the Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe international railway. Located in the eastern part of a basin, Chongqing's terrain slopes from north to south towards the Yangtze River valley, with hills and mountains dominating the landscape, accounting for 76% of the total area. The Yangtze River flows from west to east across the city, covering a distance of 679 kilometers.
Chongqing is the largest industrial and commercial city in the southwest region and an important modern manufacturing base in China.
