Kunming Changshui International Airport is located in Changshui Village, Guandu District, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, 24.5 kilometers northeast of Kunming. It is a 4Flevel civil transport airport operated and managed by Yunnan Airport Group Co., Ltd. As one of the top 100 airports globally, it is the only largescale hub airport approved for construction during China's "Eleventh FiveYear Plan" period. It is one of China's eight regional hub airports and an international aviation hub, ranking alongside Urumqi Diwopu International Airport as one of China's two national gateway hub airports.

On June 28, 2012, Kunming Airport was relocated from Kunming Wujiaba International Airport to Changshui International Airport for operation.

According to comprehensive information in June 2016, the airport has two runways, with the eastern runway being 4,500 meters long and the western runway being 4,000 meters long; there are 161 parking positions (including combined parking positions); it can meet the operational needs of handling 38 million passengers, 950,000 tons of cargo and mail, and 303,000 aircraft movements annually.

In 2018, the airport handled 47.08 million passengers, ranking 35th among global airports and 6th among Chinese airports in terms of passenger traffic.

One of the top 50 airports globally, a national gateway hub airport facing Southeast Asia, South Asia, and connecting Europe and Asia, and the only national gateway hub airport in the southwestern region of China.
